Justice Capital Initiative Fellowship
Twice a year, we offer a comprehensive fellowship program in collaboration with the City University of New York (CUNY) John Jay School of Criminal Justice. Participants work hands-on, gaining knowledge about our independent movement media operation producing our TV, radio and podcast productions. Our entire staff spends time with each fellow throughout the program, sharing expertise and knowledge from editing to scripting to promotions and technical skills. We mentor our fellows and guide them in producing their own media pieces. Students interested in applying should reach out to the CUNY John Jay College career center.

“A major highlight was working on my independent project, where I combined interviews, research, and storytelling to highlight themes of community and belonging. It showed me just how powerful the media can be in driving conversations about social justice.”
– Erika Harley, Fall 2024 Justice Capital Initiative Fellow
Social Justice Reporting Fellowship
We offer a three-month reporting fellowship for aspiring and early-career journalists and digital media professionals with an interest in social justice journalism. Fellows work closely with our Production, Audio, and/or Communications departments, and a portion of their time is spent on producing short video or audio content to be used in one of our half-hour episodes and/or distributed as web-exclusive content.

“Laura Flanders & Friends allowed me to gain more exposure to the independent and movement media landscapes, aiding me with greater access to spaces where my voice matters . . .”
– Miracle Gatling, Summer 2024 Social Justice Reporting Fellow
